Led by adjunct instructors Marcelo Valdes and Benjamin Ibarra-Sevilla, a studio of first- and second-year architecture graduate students are using their design-build skills to construct a bread oven for a women’s shelter in East St. Paul. The staff of Casa de Esperanza have been acting as a real client for the students, meeting and reviewing design proposals.
Work on the oven is scheduled to be finished in time for the studio’s final review on May 8th—-at which time students and staff will share in some of the oven-baked goods.
Until then, Threshold will profile the studio’s process in a three part feature.
