What Should the AIA Do?

In this week's AIArchitect, the AIA is projecting another 11% decline in design and construction activity in 2009. In response, the AIA has developed the Rebuild and Renew Plan that outlines recommendations to President Obama. It's a $100 billion plan that would supposedly create 1.6 million jobs, but only 13,000 in architecture.

What do YOU think the AIA should do in response to this economy? Is this plan adequate? Should we change our approach to design instead of relying on the AIA or public policy change? Should we begin discussing economic sustainability over environmental sustainability?

I think the AIA should build projects like their office shown above, hold design competitions for real projects and building technology problems and organize humanitarian work projects that can benefit from architectural support. Give those of us architects that now have time something to do to empower our careers. LOOK AT THESE BLOG ARTICLES!
